Michael & Kelly’s Swan Valley Wedding at The Vines Resort

Kelly is from Sydney and Michael from Perth. They continued a long-distance relationship for three and a half years before moving interstate to be with one another. They actually booked me for their wedding several years back—so it was something of a long wait, but they got there in the end and it was totally worth it. Kelly was a super stunning bride and Michael a cool character.

The couple ultimately chose to have their wedding in Perth, selecting The Vines Resort & Country Club located in the beautiful Swan Valley. It was perfect for them because the ceremony, reception and accommodation were all in the one spot, ideal for the interstate guests.

The Vines Novotel in the Swan Valley could not be faulted. The venue’s upkeep is always beautiful and the staff are truly amazing. We planned the majority of this wedding from Sydney and they were unbelievably accommodating in every aspect.

For their wedding pallet, Kelly chose a mainly pastel colour pastel of mint green, light pink, peach and cream:

We wanted to go with something that wasn’t over the top and reflected our laid-back nature, so we chose a rustic, romantic theme.

For the gown she incorporated similar elements to her mother and her grandmother’s gowns to create a stylish and timeless garment.

Our favourite moment was having all of our family and friends together in the one spot at the same time, celebrating this major milestone of ours. We have never had that before, and probably never will again since our families and some friends live on opposite sides of the country. It made it a very special day for us and there was plenty of emotion.

After the ceremony, we drove to the Gnangara Pine Forest to escape the harsh sun and capture some photos of the bridal. By the time we got back to The Vines Resort, the sun was ready to give us some soft, beautiful lighting that was perfect for the more darker, moodier and romantic photos of the couple. Then.. it was time to party on!

All of their décor was DIY. Michael’s father is a carpenter and he made all of the decorations including the display ladder, the seating chart, wishing well and cake topper. He crafted the lot from weathered Jarrah and Pine and it all looked spectacular.

Floral arrangements where provided by a family member as their wedding gifts, and she did an amazing job. She decorated the tables with plain jars of all different sizes and shapes with multiple types of flowers that all fitted their colour scheme.

The couple met through shared musical interests and for their wedding favours the decided to give the soundtrack of the wedding day so they would have a keepsake from the day that meant something special to them.

When asked if there was anything she would do differently, Kelly said:

We are very lucky to say that we wouldn’t change anything about our wedding day. Organising can be stressful, but you need to remind yourself that nothing really matters so long as at the end of the day, you are married and have fun!! More times than not, your guests won’t even notice things don’t work out the way you intended. Our MC forgot to announce and run the bouquet/garter toss—but in the end it gave us more time to dance, so who cares?
